Calgary Housing Stats - January 2019

Calgary’s real estate market strongly favours buyers right now.

In January 2018, there were a total of 804, down 16.16% from this same time in 2018. The Median sale price is $391,750, down 5.6% from January 2018. Total number of new listings this month were 2,575 and total inventory was 5,473, up 17.95% from the previous year.

Let’s face it, January is slow for most all businesses and real estate is no exception. Higher inventory levels aren’t helping either, neither is the fact that we are still in a strong buyer’s market.

“The slow start to the year does not come as a surprise, as concerns about job losses and the state of the energy sector weigh on consumers. We anticipate that the slow market conditions will persist throughout much of the first quarter,” said Ann-Marie Lurie, CREB® chief economist.
